Vinyasa is a flow style yoga, that puts poses into sequences. Allowing the student to move smoothly with the practice. Newbies can hope in with no fear and experienced yogis can challenge themselves. Towards the end of the class, there is always a stretch and a few moments of mindfulness and that is where true yoga is found.
Yin Yoga is a slow and mindful practice of mostly seated postures held for 90 seconds to a few minutes. Find a starting place, breath and let time and the body do the work of finding length and openness. Sometimes staying still is harder than constant movement. It is so needed. Like in nature, sometimes doing nothing makes everything happen.
That is why Yin is called “The Fountain of Youth."
